Why I Made Be Hair Now

A Practice in Presence.
Let me tell you a story about hair.
Hair that’s been loved and lost. Grieved and regrown.
Hair that carries memory.
That holds our courage, our hopes, our dreams.
When I was 19, I started losing mine.
I didn’t know why—it just started falling. A lot.
I was terrified.
(Keep in mind, this was 1993. The internet was unfathomable at this time.)
Just out of high school, no clue who I was or who I was meant to become.
And going bald. Quickly.
I remember sitting in a friend’s car and consciously deciding to speak my fear aloud, I needed support, advice, kindness.
“My hair is falling out, and I’m scared.”
She said nothing. Not a word. Not a glance. Just kept driving. (Seriously!)
Her silence echoed a void I’d felt my whole life.
Don’t be seen. Don’t be heard. It’s safest that way.
Eventually, I discovered my hair loss was called alopecia—and for me, it seemed to be linked to a combination of caffeine and stress. I cut back on the sodas, changed some habits, and my hair grew back. But the relationship I had with my hair was never the same.
Years later, with a full head of locks and alopecia years behind me, I began working for an organization that advocated for people with trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder) and skin-picking disorder.
I sat with people of all ages who had complicated, often painful relationships with their hair, their skin, their very being. And over time, I realized that my story wasn’t so different from theirs. Don’t be seen. Don’t be heard. It’s safest that way.
And I learned (perhaps remembered) this:
Hair is powerful.
And your crown is sacred.
Be Hair Now honors this truth.
This isn’t just a hair and scalp oil.
It’s a ritual of return—
to your roots, to your presence, to the part of you that connects sky to self.
It’s crafted with slow-infused organic herbs—rosemary, horsetail, calendula, rose, lavender, and castor oil—each chosen for their ability to stimulate, soothe, and strengthen.
Use it as a pre-wash scalp massage, a leave-in oil for daily nourishment, or a sacred pause in the mirror—for your scalp, your beard, your brows, or wherever you want to come home to yourself, wherever you want to grow.
A Practice of Presence
Massage your roots with presence. With Awareness.
Your crown is sacred ground—your fingers prepare the soil.
Hands are healers. Be Hair Now.
Whisper wisdom into your hair.
Words are seeds.
What will you plant today?
Say it aloud: Be Hair Now.
What does that mean to you?
Work the oil through your strands—
brush, comb, or fingers—
not to tame, but to tend.
Let go of fear. Water what’s ready to grow.
Let your roots feel held.
Let your crown remember.
Be heard. Be seen. Be Hair Now.
